Starting on July 11th, everyone in Stillwater will be required to wear a mask in public.

The city council's vote was unanimous and the result was 5 to 0.

The new rules take effect starting Saturday, July 11 and will continue until November 30th.

This means two of Oklahoma's biggest college towns-- Stillwater and Norman--- will have mandatory mask orders for the foreseeable future.

In Stillwater's case-- starting this weekend, a Mask will be mandatory in all indoor public spaces.

This includes restaurants, school buildings, retail stores, or "personal service establishments that provide goods or services directly to the public."

The face mask rule does not apply to kids under the age of five or people with medical conditions or disabilities that would make it difficult.

Anyone eating inside a restaurant, or exercising are also exempt as long as social distancing is maintained.

The city said there will be signs outside of school buildings and businesses to let people know a mask is required.

Anyone that does not follow the ordinance could face criminal trespassing, disturbing the peace, or disorderly conduct complaints.

Businesses that do not follow the ordinance could also be punished as well.
