'Leaning Tower of Broken Arrow' actually perfectly vertical, according to City, despite apparent tilt

A water tower under construction in Broken Arrow appears to be leaning, but is not, according to the City of Broken Arrow.

Why does the Broken Arrow water tower look like it’s leaning?

The planned 187-foot, 2.5-million-gallon water tank at 101st Street and Lynn Lane is designed to serve a growing part of town. But to many drivers, it appears to tilt noticeably when viewed from certain angles.

City officials say the tower is completely vertical and blame the perceived tilt on the sloping terrain around the site.

What is the city’s response to the rumors?

City staff addressed the speculation after social media posts questioned the tower’s stability.

A city spokesman said the contractor recently confirmed the tower was plumb, using a laser surveying tool, at the suggestion of the City.

Why do some people see it differently?

From certain vantage points—especially for drivers coming over a nearby hill—the tower can appear tilted compared to nearby objects.

Some residents have jokingly suggested names like “Eileen” or “The Leaning Tower of Bisa.”
