German Woman Living In Tulsa Receives Highest Civilian Award

A German woman who lives in Tulsa is being recognized for her work promoting German culture and language.

Barbara Conrad received the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for her work founding and organizing the German American Society of Tulsa.

She also worked with the Tulsa Global Alliance and coordinated a veteran's memorial service for 62 German Prisoners of War interred at Fort Reno.

This is the highest civilian award that the country gives out.

It's overwhelming and I'm basically very humbled to get it. My Germany family is very excited because not everyone is getting it," said Barbara Conrad.

Conrad has lived in Tulsa since 1974.
