There will be no in person proceedings at the Tulsa County Courthouse for at least 30 days beginning on December 8th. 

“There are going to be people that are not going to get resolution to their matters in the justice system during this period of time, but what the court is trying to do is balance their health and safety," said Vicki Cox.

Cox is the Tulsa County Court Administrator and said the new changes come at the recommendation of the CDC and Tulsa Health Department. 

“Right now, especially, there is just too great a risk to people’s personal health and safety and the community at large for us to continue to just do things in that same fashion," said Cox.

She said the courthouse will remain open and some cases will continue, but they'll be done through video conferencing.

“If an inmate needs to appear by video from the jail we have that capability already and that will be maintained during this period of time," said Cox.

She said there will be a few exceptions to the new rules. 

“An emergency protective order; another example might be an emergency guardianship matter where someone’s health or safety or welfare was at risk," said Cox.

She said you can file paperwork at the courthouse or file for a marriage license, but jury trials are off until February.

Cox said the new order will not impact small claims, evictions, or juvenile cases at the Juvenile Justice Center.
