Police Search For Suspects In Fatal Home Invasion At Tulsa Apartments

Tulsa Police are still looking for the two men responsible for shooting and killing a 22-year-old man. Investigators said as far as they can tell, the victim was totally innocent, inside his own apartment when two suspects broke in and shot him.

Police have identified the victim as Benjamin Montgomery.

Officers said it happened Thursday night at this apartment complex near 101st and Sheridan. They said the two men initially tried to rob another guy at the complex. That victim convinced the robbers he had what they wanted in his apartment, but the suspects never made it that far.

Police said while they were heading to the first victim's door, they realized there was a party happening in the next apartment, so they went inside.

Sergeant Brandon Watkins said that's when Montgomery confronted the two men, and essentially threw himself in between his friends and the gun.

"He couldn't be more innocent," Watkins said. "He did what he did to try to save his friends."

"His family is crushed," he continued. "They've lost their kid. Somebody's gotta be willing to step up and do the right thing."

Police said they don't believe Montgomery knew the two men in any way. They ask anyone who knows anything about where the men could be to call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS.
