Sapulpa Police Identify Man Killed In Wrong-Way Wreck With FedEx Truck

A man driving the wrong way on Route 66 Thursday evening was killed after he crashed head-on into a FedEx truck. Sapulpa Police said the SUV driver, identified as Marshall Douglas, died in the fiery wreck. The 31-year-old man was a Sand Springs resident.

Witnesses said they saw the driver of the semi jump to safety just before the truck went up in flames.

Sapulpa Police said the driver of the truck was taken to the hospital, but is okay. 

Police said the the driver of the SUV was driving westbound on eastbound Route 66 and hit the FedEx semi near where Route 66 and Interstate 44 merge. The crash caused the semi to hang off the bridge.

Some eastbound lanes of the highway near West 61st in Sapulpa were still closed Friday morning but have since been reopened.

"I'm in the middle of a 14-hour drive to get to shipping, but it is no big deal at all, compared to this," said witness Mark Callis. "It is just really sad."

ODOT said they will be repairing damage from the wreck. They said there is no imminent danger to the public, but drivers should use care.
