Owasso Police say an 18-year-old resident of a home shot and killed his uncle near east 76th Street North and North 129th East Avenue.  

Police say they got a call around 11:30 Monday night from a man who said someone broke into his home. 

OPD identified the burglary suspect as Zachary Daniel Sparkman, 30. They say Sparkman died at the scene.

"Zachary Sparkman was the son of the homeowner and the uncle of the alleged shooter, but Zachary was reportedly not authorized to be at the house," said Deputy Chief of Police Jason Woodruff. 

"Again, this investigation is still in its preliminary stages, but evidence at the scene appears to confirm that Zachary forced entry into the house through the back door and appears to have been shot one time in the head by the 18-year-old young man, who was apparently home alone and did not know the identity of the alleged intruder at the time of the shooting," said Woodruff.

They say the 18-year-old caller told them he shot at the intruder to defend himself. When officers got the home, they found a Sparkman inside with a gunshot wound.

"At least initially that's what it looks like we are responding to is a person that's inside the house, heard someone breaking in the back door and fired a shot at that person," said Deputy Chief of Police Jason Woodruff.

Sparkman has a record of criminal convictions for drug and driving under the influence charges, according to the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. He was shot one time in the head with a .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun, Woodruff said.

Police said the teen, who has not been taken into custody or named by police, was not hurt.
