Today's Pop Music Really IS More Depressing Than 30 Years Ago
Pop music today is more depressing than 30-years ago.
Researchers found music from 2015 is about 20% more unhappy than it was in 1985.
One reason is they say upbeat pop from the likes of Wham! and Duran Duran has given way to the heavyweight ballads by Adele and Ed Sheeran.
But despite an increase in sadder songs, they say artists are more likely to make money if they are female and release upbeat singles.... because happy tunes climb higher in the charts.
