This Woman is Pregnant with Her Granddaughters
In a few weeks, an Illinois woman will give birth to her grandchildren.
The twins, a boy and a girl, were conceived through in vitro fertilization because the woman’s daughter is unable to get pregnant after having a rare and aggressive small cell cervical cancer.
The only treatment option was a hysterectomy, followed by chemotherapy and radiation.
Before the procedure would render her infertile, doctors were able to freeze nine embryos in the hopes of the woman’s daughter having another baby someday. Two years later, she is cancer-free.
After the cancer treatment, the woman told her daughter that she would be a surrogate. Because she is younger than 45 and already had three healthy pregnancies, she was a good candidate.
The woman said: “What wouldn’t you do for your grandchildren? I’ll bring them into the world.”
