Skiatook Police Department Introduces Its First Community Resource Officer

The Skiatook Police Department now has its first community resource officer.

Although the role is new, Officer Brandon Foshee is a familiar face. Foshee has been with the department for 12 years.

He is a school resource officer during the school year, a patrol officer when needed and now, the department's first community resource officer.

"I would say there that there is no job too big or too little," said Foshee.

Foshee will be visiting parks and neighborhoods, plus talking to residents and community groups to educate and exchange information.

The goal is to create trust and work together.

Foshee says he brought this idea to the department based on his experiences.

"I have been noticing more and more mental health concerns,” explained Foshee. “It kind of went from that to truancy, and some of them kind of went hand in hand."

Friday, the department shared news of the position on its Facebook, and dozens reacted with excitement.

A lot of people who responded to the Facebook post said they know and trust Foshee since he has worked with their children. Longtime resident and business owner, Jeannie Reyckert, agreed.

"And I think with one person in charge, anybody will know who to call or who to contact if they have any issues," said Reyckert.

Foshee said he is already getting ideas and is excited to work with the community.

"Anything that I or any other officer can do, just pick up the phone and let us know," said Foshee.

The Skiatook Police Department will post any upcoming community events on its Facebook page here.
