Oklahoma Nursing Homes Struggle To Fill Staff Amid COVID-19 Surge

The recent surge in COVID-19 cases is once again making it hard on nursing homes and senior living facilities.

One Oklahoma company said they're in crisis mode and having trouble finding staff.

The Diakonos Group owns and operates 21 facilities across Oklahoma, and they said people in their industry are exhausted and scared right now.

Kimberly Green is the company's Chief Operating Officer and said everyone in the skilled nursing industry is wondering when this will all end.

She said staff and some residents are worried about spreading the virus within their facilities, and residents are missing their loved ones.

While they are all tested and wear PPE, there is still the fear among employees.

Green said that fear has forced some nurses and support staff to quit or simply walk off the job. They're having a hard time finding people to fill those roles, including nurses, housekeepers and culinary staff.

Green said even if you're just considering a career change or in college looking for a job, to reach out to them.

"Most of us will pay for your training,” said Green. “Definitely re-train you, pay for your certification, we will pay for college. So, reach out to us and let us help you."
