Local Emergency Managers Prepare For Possible Winter Weather

Parts of Green Country are preparing for winter weather and some counties are already in an Ice Storm warning.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation has highway crews in every county with trucks, salt and sand supplies. The department said it is prepared to use those if the roads get slick.

The two counties under the ice storm warning are Osage and Pawnee Counties. The warning lasts until 7 p.m. Tuesday night.

Both counties are preparing for icy roads, especially on bridges and elevated surfaces.

Pawnee County Emergency Manager Mark Brisbin said part of his job is making sure police and fire crews have everything they need if there is a severe ice storm. Brisbin said he also prepares shelters in the area and talks with the Red Cross.

Brisbin said right now, they are watching the roads and encouraging people to pay attention to the weather.

"Stay weather aware and if it's getting bad outside, try and be as safe as you can. Limit your traveling," Brisbin said.

Osage County Emergency Manager Jerry Roberts said they are preparing their crews to use sand in case they need to put it on the roads Monday night.
