Police Find Body In Small Tulsa Pond

Tulsa Police are investigating after a body was found in a small pond at 31st and 145th East Ave.

The body was found in the water near a makeshift boat. Police believe the body could be connected to a missing person case they've been working but say they are unsure how the body got there.

Jason Stanom was outside playing in the parking lot with his son when he saw two boys playing over near the pond beside the Boulder Ridge Apartment Complex.

"One of them just wandered off and just came back and there was a small scream but it was loud enough to where you could hear it a little bit- like frightened," said Stanom.

Stanom says they started running back towards the apartment complex and then officers started rolling up to the scene. Tulsa Police say they found a body face down in the water but couldn't tell the identity, gender, or if foul play was involved.

"Right now that we can see we aren't seeing anything but that doesn't mean that something else might come up," said Cpl. Justin Ritter.

Tulsa Fire's Dive team came to the scene to recover the body which was partially submerged in the water. Police have since determined it's a man's body and believe they know his identity but aren't releasing it at this time.

"We have a report of a missing person missing from this area and we are pretty confident that its that person," said Cpl. Ritter.

Tulsa Police say the body will now be taken to the medical examiner's office to see if any evidence was missed on the scene. They will also be able to determine how the man died.

"If there's foul play determined, obviously our homicide detectives will start working it in that manner," Cpl. Ritter.

We expect to learn the man's identity later this week.
