The In-Flight Pick-up plan.. GENIUS, OR TERRIBLE?

The send-over-a-drink move can be totally suave or totally awkward, depending on the circumstances. Like, for example, when your dad is there. Ahem. So what do we think of it in this situation?

On a plane! Virgin America just launched a new in-flight entertainment system called "Red", and you can use it to send a drink, meal, or snack to a fellow passenger who caught your eye. All you have to do is note their seat number when you brave the airplane bathroom in an attempt to make sexy eye contact with your crush as you walk by, then select a menu item to send over. To let them know who thinks they're the hottest person in a seatbelt? You can send a text through a seat-to-seat messaging system. OK, that part's a little weird.

I'm so torn between my discomfort with awkward dating scenes and my need for alcoholic beverage to keep me sane during the trauma of airline travel. Frankly, I think the warm, fuzzy feeling of a nice drink to calm me down during a bumpy flight wins. Who could turn down one of those adorably tiny little bottles of vodka? Plus, since you're stuck in your own seats, it's not like you even have to talk to the guy if you're not feeling it. You can pretend to have a connecting flight RIGHTNOW as soon as the plane lands if you need to politely get away from the dude.

Which also means it's probably not the most effective way to make a connection, but, hey, if it gets you through a cross-country flight, why not?

Would you be into getting a drink sent to you by a fellow airline passenger? Or would this just totally creep you out?
